National Center for Child Welfare Excellence (NCCWE) takes a broad child welfare perspective, embracing an interest in policies and practices that promote the well-being, safety and permanency of all children and youth while devoting special attention to those facing significant challenges in their environments. Our perspective also encompasses their families and their communities, recognizing that we cannot improve circumstances for children and youth without engaging families and these key systems of care. The community context in which children and youth live influences their well-being, safety and permanency in important ways. We are interested as much in preventing problems as in ameliorating them, and this broad perspective affords us the opportunity to address them in the areas of education/training; technical assistance; research/evaluation; and spotlighting best practices.
NCCWE's impact derives largely from a partnership between innovative practices, including public systems, institutions, organizations, and programs, and the most rigorous academic research. Together, this broad perspective and commitment to working in partnership form the foundation of our efforts. Utilizing the best of implementation science approaches and evidence based and evidence informed practices, the NCCWE is dedicated to help strengthen the capacity and promote sustainability of child welfare systems on the local, state and national levels.
NCCWE affiliated faculty associates and professional staff come from a variety of academic and professional disciplines, including social work, child welfare, public policy, sociology, economics, education, and law. Many have experience in government or service organizations, providing the National Center for Child Welfare Excellence with its distinctive blend of practice experience, academic rigor, and practical problem solving.
NCCWE evaluators and researchers combine a full range of statistical and research methods so that policymakers, government officials, service providers, community groups, and funders are better positioned to use evidence to improve the well-being of vulnerable children and their families.
NCCWE engages faculty, staff, consultants, students, and partnering organizations to build and translate practice knowledge and evidence into child welfare excellence.
